Family Fun

For those of you (all one of you) who may have read my earlier post regarding my family, this will make more sense to you. Everyone else may be a bit lost.

We went to my parents this evening to celebrate Thanksgiving (late) and my nephew and dad’s bdays. It was an interesting evening. Both SILs talked most of the time, only to each other. They both acted quite tense with my parents, and with half of the siblings.

I had to chase my kids around to make sure they didn’t “do anything” to my nephew. (He turned one earlier this month, so he’s about 6 months younger than Drew. Yet, I’m a “bad” parent if I don’t chase him around to be sure he doesn’t touch nephew’s face, hug him to hard, sit on him, or take his toy. We all know kids do these things; it doesn’t make the kid bad, or the parent bad. It just IS.)

Sophia made a comment about nephew looking like a girl because his hair is long. She told SIL that boys have short hair and girl have long hair. SIL just went silent and turned away from Sophia. Um, do you remember that she’s THREE? She’s trying to categorize things and make some sense of the world. She’s not saying it to offend you or nephew. She’s just stating what her observations are of the world. Give me a break, woman!

Oh, and, SIL and brother didn’t even thank us for the gift we gave nephew. We’ll see if they send a thank you card, but I highly doubt it. (I’m such a pessimist.)

Ron and I were both ready to leave. Things were just too tense and strange. I don’t even like getting together with my family any more. Why does everyone have to be so judgemental?! *sigh*

Now to just get through Christmas…
